Satoru Gojo vs Makima (Jujutsu Kaisen vs Chainsaw Man)
“Bark for me.”
Makima! The dog breeding, simp-attracting, McDonalds happy meal from Chainsaw Man!
Satoru Gojo! The fraud-jobbing honored one from Jujutsu Kaisen!
All men are created equal, no, all people are created equal. But sometimes that message doesn’t completely apply. Some individuals are detained to impact the world in a major way upon birth. As if the Earth experiences a violent shockwave of a future like none before.
However, for these special individuals, it can be a dry and depressing life. When you exist as somebody who is fundamentally more important than those around you, it becomes difficult to experience the basic joys of life. Everyone has their eyes on you, and you’re forced to live a life nobody else has to because of your status.
This is what Makima and Gojo are all about! In a battle between the most dominant Devil and the most powerful sorcerer, who comes out on top? Will The Control Devil prevail against The Honored One?!
Before We Start…
Before we get into the actual blog, we’re going to clarify some things first. No, this blog was not made to “debunk” or “respond” to the Death Battle episode. This blog started production weeks before the episode was even announced. This blog should not be treated as something tied to the episode. This was a passion project between the two blog creators, please treat it as such.
Also, major spoilers for both Chainsaw Man and Jujutsu Kaisen below. Viewer discretion is advised if you plan on checking out one or both series blind.
The original Chainsaw Man manga and anime will be used for manga, while the original Jujutsu Kaisen manga, anime, and the Jujutsu Kaisen 0 manga and movie will be used for Gojo.
Do note this blog was finished as of November 5th of 2023, any information that is released after this date will not be included, so keep that in mind.
With that being said, let’s finally begin!
Background
“Take, for example… death. War. Hunger. There are many things in this world humanity would be happier without. With Chainsaw Man’s power, I’ll blot them all out.”
People are screaming, animals are running, and an almighty beast known as a Devil is taunting the ravaged city in the midst of its rampage. Chainsaw Man is a world comprising beings known as Devils, horrific monstrosities that are born and strengthened by the fears of humanity. Darkness, bats, grass, and everything in-between. If there’s a widespread fear, there’s a Devil.
Logically when society is constantly being threatened by these creatures, you’d want a countermeasure. So why not take an innocent Devil, raise it as an emotionless government slave, and have it focus on the ultimate goal of wiping out everything wrong with humanity?! That’s Makima for ya, the Control Devil!
Makima is a being who lacks innate emotional attachment, being raised by the government. Due to her connection with the government, she made a contract with the Prime Minister of Japan. This contract states that any and all damage meant to cause harm to Makima will be transferred to an unassuming Japanese citizen. With this, Makima would slowly develop an empire. She would use her mind manipulation as the Control Devil to build up an army of Devils and Devil Hunters, people who dedicate their lives to hunting, well, Devils.
She became the leader of Public Safety, a government funded organization tasked with protecting the public from Devils. But, behind the scenes, Makima worked toward her dream of defeating the legendary Chainsaw Devil; the most powerful Devil in history. She would defeat her idol, control him, and use his power to make the world a better place in her eyes.
Her upbringing ironically led to her hating the government who raised her. She loaned for a loving family, people she could count on; her equals. She wanted the Chainsaw Devil not just for his power, but for the fact she could finally share affection with someone as an equal. She’s the Control Devil, but she doesn’t want to have all of her relationships be completely one-sided. So, when she met the bearer of the Chainsaw Devil; Denji. Her entire plan for a better world could finally go into motion.
She built Denji’s life up, gave him everything he could ever ask for. And then, she broke it, made him kneel to her so she could finally gain the affection of the idol she dreamed of starting a family with. But, even with this, her idol refused. The Chainsaw Devil, or Pochita as he was named by his caretaker, had already found a place of belonging. And this caretaker she never acknowledged as a person, Denji, dealt the finishing blow. Despite everything she did to Denji, Denji still loved her. So, like any normal person would do, he cooked up her destroyed body and ate her for a wonderful dinner to “become one with her”.
Makima’s downfall ultimately stemmed from her lack of emotion. She was not born as a human despite her desperate attempts to become a human, she was born as a true Devil. She, ironically, built up a life that she would dream of and that life she built up was the reason she died for good. Denji still loved her in the end, in spite of everything she had done. We as an audience were able to understand why she became who she was, and how her reincarnation Nayuta would be better under Denji’s guidance. We finally got to see what Makima’s true colors tasted like; we became one with her.
Satoru Gojo
“Winning by dying and winning even if you die…… are two completely different things… Megumi.”
In a world where ancient Curses birthed from the negative emotions of humanity roam around, hidden from the view of the populace and going on rampages for free. It’s no wonder that the world experiences an imbalanced impact on December 7th, 1989, when the new generation of the Six Eyes is born… Satoru Gojo!
Gojo is a member of the Gojo clan, a legendary family of incredibly powerful Jujutsu Sorcerers, people who channel the very energy Curses are made of to eliminate them. The Six Eyes is a gift that is incredibly rare, and so when someone gets it after generations… of course a bunch of people put a bounty on the kid’s head!
Despite the status of his sociality, Gojo continued life the best he could. Growing to become one of the strongest sorcerers of his era and enrolling into Jujutsu High, a school made to channel the Cursed Energy within gifted people so they can combat the Curses that plague the planet. He met new friends and allies, including Suguru Geto! Who was his best friend and school buddy! Alongside Geto, he met others such as Shoto Ieiri.
This passive and casual life Gojo maintained for years was put to a great test, when he was tasked with keeping the vessel of the Jujutsu High barrier maker Master Tengan safe; Riko Amanai. Riko changed Gojo in a big way. She finally experienced the happiness she denied, she lived her life with joy despite her inevitable sacrifice. And just when she felt she could enjoy her life again… she was killed. Killed by a bounty hunter named Toji Fushiguro.
After Gojo landed the killing blow on Toji, with Geto and him almost dying in the process, they were shaken to the core. They both realized the true cruelty of the world, and how this happy-go-lucky free time they had relished for so long wasn’t accurate to reality. Geto went down a dark path… and Gojo was forced to kill his best friend by his own hands.
Gojo had lost so much. He was a different man from his teenage years. He recognized the reality of the jujutsu world. So, he vowed to himself to train a new generation of sorcerers who would create the bright future he dreamed of. He became a mentor to sorcerers coming into their own such as Yuji Itadori and Toji’s son, Megumi Fushiguro. With his guidance, he has full confidence in the next generation, knowing that they’d impact the world for the better.
Even after being slayed at the hands of the King of Curses; Ryomen Sukuna. Gojo can rest well knowing that the future is in the hands of the greatest individuals he could’ve asked for. You did well, Satoru Gojo, and we won’t forget you for as long as we live!
Experience & Skill
Makima
(She’s a really good drinker)
Makima is an incredibly talented fighter in spite of what her appearance may seem. She has managed to directly compete with and overpower Denji, someone who at that point had fought multiple arcs worth of Devils, with little effort. Most Devils in the series get outclassed by her in terms of combat prowess, with the exception of the Chainsaw Devil. She has years of experience leading the Public Safety Division and was the tastiest commander for poor situations revolving around Devils.
She was able to plan far enough ahead to orchestrate everything that happened in Denji’s life when he worked in Public Safety. Given she was raised by the government to act as a heartless and purely tactical leader who focuses on the most optimal route for success, she should’ve realistically been given similar information to that of military generals or soldiers. However, this is unconfirmed. Overall though, Makima is one of the most tactical beings in the world and is the perfect leader for the war against the Devils
Gojo
Gojo is not only the strongest of his time, he’s the most skilled of his time too. Gojo is a phenomenal fighter that puts every sorcerer of his generation to shame. He is a master martial artist who is able to contest with the most skilled sorcerer of the last thousand years; Sukuna. He has taught multiple of the best sorcerers of his generation such as Yuji, Megumi, and Yuta. He’s able to come up with new techniques in the middle of combat and use those techniques with complete mastery, such as his development of Cursed Technique Repair during his fight with 20F Sukuna.
He’s been described as a genius who can use techniques he’s never taught before; “A genius like him that can do it from the beginning is not suitable for teaching.” He is dominant with the Six Eyes and Limitless, which are things that require immense skill to learn to use efficiently. He’s consistently been portrayed as a fighter who can easily outclass multiple powerhouses in battle with just pure martial arts skill, such as in his fight against Jogo, Hanami, and Choso during Shibuya. There is a reason Satoru Gojo is so widely feared, he’s an expert at humiliating his opponents with his raw combat prowess!
Equipment
Devil Hunter Suit
All devil hunters wear a specific suit that makes the devil hunters look a bit professional and even gives more protection to said devil hunters. The suits are actually quite sturdy, and allowed Aki to take many slashes from the Katana Man.Gojo

Abilities
Makima
Control Devil
Devils in Chainsaw Man are beings that are built on what they “embody”. They grow stronger the more people fear what they are. For example, the Gun Devil grows stronger on the fears of guns in general or the Gun Devil itself. Makima, being the Control Devil, is reliant on the fear of control or her control itself.
Being a Devil gives you many perks. Such as being able to be conscious even after getting her head or other parts of the body cut off, being able to just attach it back to her body, or being able to regenerate completely new parts by drinking blood, regenerating half of her body and other things. Devils being killed completely will not permanently kill them either, as they will revive in hell, and if killed in hell, will be revived back into the living.
Thanks to being the control devil, Makima is able to control anyone who considers themself inferior to her by simply giving them commands, being able to erase certain memories they had. If the target finds themself inferior to her. they will follow her commands as the control devil. She uses this to control many devils to fight alongside her, making an “army” of devils on her side. These devils include:
After finding out that he was going to be killed by Denji, Aki goes to Makima to see what he can do about it, and ends up making a contract with Makima. Aki on his own is comparable to Denji, however can summon the Fox Devil, which eats whatever the user wants it to unless the target is a hybrid, the Future Devil which is able to see in the future and predict any future movements, only being able to view seconds in the future, but can see the target’s lifespan if their head is put on the devil’s chest cavity, and the Curse Devil, crushing them while biting them if the target has been stabbed 3 times, in exchange for part of the users lifespan.
Makima after making a contract with Aki, uses the gun devil and mixes it with Aki, creating the gun fiend which was on par with Hybrid Denji.
Devil Hybrids
Makima has a lot of Devil Hybrids, which are truly immortal unlike fiends, which are considered half immortal, and Devils, who need to be reincarnated to fully return. A little bit of blood will regenerate them back from severe damage.
Gojo
Cursed Energy
Cursed Energy is an energy source within Jujutsu Kaisen that all jujutsu sorcerers can use and control. It acts like a different version of electricity with mass. It’s fueled by the emotions of the user, and a user’s emotions can be turned into Cursed Energy. It can subconsciously protect the soul despite not naturally doing so. Cursed Energy possibly can manipulate the brains of humans. It can also create barriers for attacking and defending. High amounts of Cursed Energy can allow the user to essentially ignore or null side effects or dangerous techniques through raw energy output.
With Cursed Energy, users can use:
Cursed Technique
The Six Eyes is an innate gift and Jujutsu trait that is passed down along generations through the Gojo clan. Those with the Six Eyes have an immaculate perception of their environment. Users can precisely see where figures are from far away, read the Cursed Techniques of others, see the foreign Cursed Energy that flows between people/objects, and reject possibilities. The Six Eyes give the bearer an essential unlimited pool of Cursed Energy, because the amount of Cursed Energy used when activating a Cursed Technique is close to zero. They are a passive trait that don’t require a conscious effort to be utilized.
Neutral Limitless: Infinity
Neutral Limitless: Infinity is a state passed down from the Gojo Family. It is a passive and natural state of being that brings the concept of the infinite space into reality. Objects, people, or even space itself will be slowed down to the point of becoming immobile the closer they come into contact with Infinity. Objects will never reach Gojo, and any impacts from energy attacks will simply blow past him. Limitless can be used to distinguish surrounding things by the mass, speed, and shape of their Cursed Energy.
Strengthened Limitless: Blue represents the idea of attraction. It acts like a magnetic field around Gojo, pulling in objects and forcing them to either float around him or attach themselves to him. The technique can be tiring and users cannot create a huge magnetic field around themselves. It can be used to crush the bodies of others. The attraction is strong enough to rip apart buildings, and it can be used to destroy objects directly.
Reversed Limitless: Red
Reversed Limitless: Red is the direct opposite of its blue counterpart. It represents the idea of repelling rather than attracting. It generates twice the amount of cursed energy that Strengthened Limitless: Blue does. It forms as a small red orb that acts as a small bomb with tons of power. All of the effects that blue has should apply to red as well, just with them revolving around repelling instead of attraction; also being stronger.
More info here.Colliding Limitless: Purple is a straightforward blast of energy created from imaginary mass that annihilates everything in its path. It collides both motion and reversal to tear anything in its way apart, to the point that Todo couldn’t see anything left of its victim after usage. Toji’s arm alongside the diameter of the wall behind him was annihilated with nothing left. Its damage output changes with distance, but even a direct hit at four kilometers away was enough to be near fatal. Keep in mind, Hollow Purple has never been confirmed to erase things from existence, but it does tear things apart to a level that Jujutsu Sorcerers can’t visibly comprehend. So it is most likely ripping things down to their matter or even their atoms. We will assume it is atomization.
More info here.Domain Expansion is a Cursed Technique that allows users to create a personal domain for themselves. It allows the user’s Cursed Technique to always land. The user can make the domain externally smaller which presumably makes it stronger. Those without Cursed Energy are considered objects within the domain, unless the domain uses actual buildings or otherwise structures as the external barrier. Domains are weaker on the outside as they are designed to trap opponents. Multiple domains at once can put strain on them, canceling out the guaranteed hit and leaving it vulnerable to being broken by intruders. The user of the domain gets an unquantifiable power boost, “like a buff in video games”. Domains can be nulled by techniques designed to counter it such as Domain for the Weak. Domains drain a large amount of Cursed Energy, and using innate Cursed Techniques while within the domain becomes immensely difficult. The drainage of energy makes using Cursed Technique difficult to use, because the domain burns it away.
Gojo has his own Domain Expansion, and it’s known as…
Unlimited Void
Unlimited Void is a domain innate to Limitless. It floods all affected with an infinite amount of knowledge, to the point their brains can’t comprehend it and they end up immobilized. The target’s entire life is forced on them infinitely. It takes only a few seconds for the target to become completely immobilized. Gojo can shorten the duration of his domain to as little as 0.2 seconds, which is enough to leave normal humans hospitalized for half a year. Gojo’s domain is not restricted by the rule of all non-Cursed Energy users being registered as objects like all other barrier-based domains are, so normal humans will be affected if they’re in its radius. Gojo himself and anybody he’s touching will not be under the effect of Unlimited Void. The target’s affected will be helpless to do anything but slowly die.

Yuta, a Cursed Energy user who Gojo is far stronger than, can toughen his body with Cursed Energy. Gojo’s also been able to tank attacks from a 20 finger Sukuna, someone who is directly comparable to him, without much problem.
Weaknesses
Midkima
(Mmmm, yummy Makima!)
While Makima is a strong devil in her own right, she is a major glass canon. She uses her contract as a means to regenerate from stronger attacks, however she can’t exactly regenerate from simply being completely destroyed, but instead gets reincarnated as a new character that isn’t Makima. While it is the Control Devil, it’s completely different from Makima herself.
Her contract also doesn’t work on things that aren’t considered “attacks”. Mainly things that are done out of “love”, or no actual ill intentions. Denji uses this fact by attacking Makima out of love via the love he still had for her, bypassing her contract.
Certain abilities such as the Death Ritual require specific setup to be used, with her having to assemble sacrifices with blindfolds to say Gojo’s name. Her control can be broken out of, if only for a moment, which was shown by Angel.
In spite of these tiny flaws, Makima is one of the most dangerous Devils of her time. She has proven herself as the leader of the Devil Hunter Division, and you better be fearful when in the presence of the Devil of Domination!
Fraudjo
(His ass did not win)
Gojo may be the strongest sorcerer of his time and an absolute powerhouse, but he has his own weaknesses. Largely derived from his status, Gojo is a very cocky individual who often doesn’t take things seriously when he should. This can be taken advantage of when against an opponent of comparable strength. His tendency to take risks can be detrimental when using techniques such as Cursed Technique Repair which has negative effects on his body.
Gojo is unable to read and sense an opponent’s moves if they lack Cursed Energy, shown by Toji. Using techniques such as Reverse Cursed Technique to replenish Cursed Energy can fry the brain, and enough damage to a user’s brain can prevent them from using Cursed Techniques as they are fundamentally engraved in the brain.
Gojo is willing to risk the lives of bystanders to get out of bad situations, but he still is a hero. He still has moral restraint, and as such he’s forced to gimp himself when bystanders are at risk. He showed this during Shibuya, where he was forced to shorten his domain by 0.2 seconds in order to not outright kill the bystanders in the vicinity.
Aside from these minor weaknesses, Satoru Gojo is a nigh-unstoppable powerhouse who will make you a FRAUD if given the chance. And he has truly earned his title as The Honored One!
Before the Verdict
Mach 3 JJK
This is a highly debated topic for the inconsistency of the verse’s speed. In the fight with Naoya Zenin, both Maki and Noritoshi struggled to keep up with a Naoya moving faster than the speed of sound; reaching mach 3. This is very inconsistent with the verse at large. Maki has reacted to bullets at very close range before as mentioned above, Sukuna has moved at speeds far above mach 3, and Gojo’s perceived information at speeds far greater than mach 3. Alongside that, they initially struggled to keep up with Naoya moving at mach 1. Despite this, they both scale to Yuji who has reacted to Piercing Blood at point blank, which moves at mach 1 before decreasing in speed. Kenjaku has dodged Piercing Blood with no issue as well. Kenjaku has also blocked a sniper bullet from close ranged before. Yuji has dodged bullets at point blank before too.
It doesn’t make sense for two characters who either have or scale to feats of dodging projectiles that move at mach 1 or speeds comparable to mach 1, to struggle against a character moving at those speeds. Mach 1, let alone mach 3, is inconsistent for the verse and causes a chain reaction of feats becoming outliers and plot holes simply because they don’t align with the idea that mach 3 is the speed cap.
Because of this, mach 3 will be dismissed. It causes problems for the verse’s scaling as a whole and doesn’t make sense for the consistency of the verse’s feats.
Lightning and Lightspeed reactions
In Jujutsu Kaisen, there are multiple feats that seem like they should be lightning and lightspeed reaction feats. Feats such as Hakari narrowly dodging lightning, and Sukuna reacting to EM waves, involve speed of that caliber; from a glance anyway. But these feats aren’t as they seem.
Within physics, there’s this little formula called force = mass times acceleration (F*MA). The force of an object or otherwise substance, is determined by how fast it is moving and how much mass it has. Why is this relevant? Well, light does not have mass; it is massless. It moves at the speed it does due to the lack of mass it possesses, with the same applying to lightning as well. Light is energy created from photons which are massless particles. Gravity can bend it because of the bending of spacetime. In a vacuum, light will decrease in speed as more mass is applied to it.
In Jujutsu Kaisen, these light and lightning attacks are created from Cursed Energy. These attacks have force and impact things with force. This creates problems when they use lightning or light-based cursed techniques. Due to the mass Cursed Energy possesses, the speed of these attacks will be slowed down below where light and lightning are otherwise. You can’t have force like Cursed Energy does without both mass and acceleration.
Cursed Energy having mass is consistent. Gojo destroyed a can with a Cursed Technique via physically crushing it, Hollow Purple is born from imaginary mass, Megumi has created water from cursed energy that has volume which would mean it would’ve had to have mass, Megumi’s Max Elephant Shikigami has weight and therefore mass, etcetera. Therefore, due to the mass that cursed energy has and the way light functions in physics, the light and lightning dodging feats that exist at the time of this doc are unusable.
Gojo Upscaling Everyone
You may have noticed that, so far, I’ve been saying Gojo upscales from every character except for a 20 finger Sukuna. That’s because Gojo is the strongest sorcerer in Jujutsu Kaisen, by a wide margin in fact.
For starters, Gojo was said to be able to quote “kill every human in his country if he wanted to.” This should include most jujutsu sorcerers that we see.
Alongside that, Gojo alone was said to be able to power a nation on his own. While yes, most jujutsu sorcerers should be able to produce enough energy to last a lifetime, they’ve never been implied to be able to power a nation like Gojo can.
Gojo beat Jogo with no effort, who stomped Nanami, Maki, and Naobito and was considered on a different level compared to them. Jogo’s also considered a special grade cursed spirit, who are considered the highest type of cursed spirit; comparable to special grade sorcerers who are the strongest type of sorcerers.
Gojo was described as being the strongest sorcerer of his era, being the only character capable of competing with a 20 finger Sukuna; who was considered the strongest sorcerer in history and the “King of Curses”. That same Sukuna blitzed and completely overpowered Yuji, as well as Ryu.
So in short, Gojo upscales everyone in the cast except for Sukuna at his full power. Most, if not all feats, done in the series would be feats Gojo could either scale to or upscale from.
Is Halloween similar to Unlimited Void?
When it comes to Unlimited Vpid Vs Makima, most of people’s debunks to Unlimited Void are from the Cosmos Devil with her Halloween ability. This ability allows her to fill the target's mind with everything in the universe, making them think about “Halloween” until they die, which makes the Spider Devil burn to death.
To determine the similarities of Unlimited Void and Halloween, I should give a recap on how Unlimited Void works. Unlimited Void is an ability that Gojo uses to overflood his target with seemingly infinite knowledge to the point where they can’t move, and non sorcerers would get killed in over 0.2 seconds if caught in its range. Gojo describes it as “given everything, but unable to do nothing”. Now similarly to Limitless, an ability that isn’t infinite distance but rather forces an object to infinitely decrease in speed until it cannot move. Unlimited Void doesn’t actually give infinite knowledge. Instead of giving straight up infinite knowledge, it’s giving a ton of knowledge infinitely. Basically going forever without actually hitting the infinite mark.
Either way, Halloween’s ability should be infinite knowledge too, as “everything” would include sets of numbers which are infinite, and decimals which are its own infinite. You would also know every math equation, which is its own infinite set, so knowing everything in the world in one shot would blatantly give you infinite knowledge. The only difference between Gojo and the Cosmos Devil, is that the Cosmos Devil does this in one shot, while it’s consistently noted that the knowledge is infinitely being given rather than it being given in one shot, thus why Jogo has “infinitely flowing” knowledge and why 0.2 seconds wouldn’t actually do ever lasting damage to humans.
Makima’s Control Requirements
This is a controversial translation issue, where it isn’t fully decided whether Makima can control people based on her thinking her target is inferior, or the target believing that they themself are inferior to Makima.
While both have their own translations, the victim finding themselves inferior is supported more than the former. While there’s a translation saying that Makima can control people based on her thoughts on them, there’s also translations on Makima being able to control people who view themselves inferior to her. There’s even in depth explanations on why “view themselves inferior” is the correct translation. This is also supported visually, with Aki only being controlled when he gives in to Makima, originally questioning her orders to being controlled by her.
However, this might not matter because we see Makima being able to control Angel on their first meeting despite them not knowing each other beforehand. Angel didn’t want to show his power because it’s dangerous, but Makima used her control to get him to show it off. Angel has even shown to be able to break out of Makima’s control, but despite this, Makima is able to put him “down” and continue to control him.
While Makima’s control seems to work depending on the victim finding themself inferior to her, it’s also implied in the verse that she can just give commands despite this restriction.
Verdict
Stats
Starting with their physical strength, both fighters are impressive in their own rights. Makima's physical appearance isn’t nearly as impressive as Gojo's, however. Makima with her fist is able to fight comparable to Hybrid Denji, who is comparable to the Cockroach Devil who can punch Denji through multiple devils which was calculated at 190 Tons of TNT, which Denji himself tanked.
However, characters like Ryu and Yuki, who are immensely inferior to Gojo, scale far higher than this. Ryu’s granite blast being calculated to 3.13 kilotons of TNT, and Yuki’s black hole being calculated to 4.7 megatons of TNT, these attacks being 16.47 and 24736.84 times stronger than Makima respectively.
Despite Makima being this weak physically however, her Bang and Telekinesis should massively upscale her physical AP, being able to damage characters like the Chainsaw Devil and the Darkness Devil, who was far superior to her previously. Both of these devils have statements proving themselves to be far superior to the Gun Devil, who can exert 2.85 gigatons of TNT. Comparing it to Gojo’s strongest feat of stomping Jogo’s domain attacks which can exert 1.82 Gigatons of TNT, Makima’s Bang/Telekinesis are 1.57 times stronger than Gojo’s peak, interesting…
Makima is also stronger than Gojo in terms of lifting strength. Gojo massively upscaling from Yuji holding up a metal cylinder that weighed 29.6 metric tons. In comparison, Makima upscales Denji’s Pochita Clone lifting 68.894321 metric tons. Meaning Gojo is 2.33 times weaker than Makima in terms of the raw strength they can lift.
Now onto speed. While they both hit the massively hypersonic ranges, Makima seems to be clearly faster when comparing the two. While Gojo massively upscaling a 15F Sukuna would give him Mach 269.9 speed, Makima is able to react to the Gun Devil itself, who at that moment was shooting from 500 kilometers away in a second, which was calculated at Mach 1457.73. That is 5.42 times faster than Gojo.
In terms of stats, Gojo should be massively superior in terms of raw AP, but Makima with Bang and Telekinesis should have a slight AP advantage, with a decent speed advantage physically with her Bang being far faster. Makima should be able to react to Gojo’s attacks and shoot her shots faster based on this.
Arsenal and Abilities
This is certainly the most interesting part of the debate, as both characters have abilities that are impressive in their own right, and can clash well between each other. To start, I want to mention how none of Makima’s army and her physically can do nothing to Gojo. Why is this? Well…
It’s simple really. Infinity! As explained in the abilities section, infinity slows an object down so much that it eventually stops moving, never reaching its target (which is Gojo in this case), meaning that any attacks thrown at him will never actually reach him, which is what Makima’s Devil army is full of.
There are only two devils that would actually matter. The Angel Devil and the Future Devil. While the Angel Devil’s equipment like his Chainsaw Man Piercing Swords still cannot touch Gojo, if Gojo touches him, Gojo’s lifespan will be decreased. Even if Gojo one shots Angel, Makima can easily revive him and reactive his ability, so the one Devil option isn’t available to Gojo, and the Future Debil just gives Makima simple precognition, making it harder for Gojo to consistently adapt to Makima’s fight style as she can also adapt to his.
Other than these two, how can Makima herself interact with Gojo? Can Bang actually bypass infinity? The answer is No. The reason for this being that Bang has been shown to travel before. This was when Makima shot Power during Denji’s birthday, where we saw the shot go through Power to hit the wall, which wouldn’t make much sense. If it’s instant, why would it keep going? It travels the distance from Makima to its stopping point which in this case would be the wall in front of her.
However, despite Bang not working on Gojo, Makima does have another technique very similar to Bang…… which doesn’t actually have a name! I’ll just refer to it as Basic Telekinesis that she uses on the Darkness Devil. When she encounters the Darkness Devil, she shoots it with an unknown shot that seems different from Bang, doing different effects without Makima saying bang. It overall is different from the actual Bang. Knowing it’s Telekinesis that just hits Darkness Devil, it’s safe to say that it doesn’t need to travel, and thus can likely hit Gojo as Infinity only slows down objects that need to travel to hit him as it calculates the object's mass, speed and shape, which the Telekinesis has none of these as an instant move. Even if you argue that it needs to travel distance, it can seemingly bypass Darkness Devil’s forcefield using darkness to protect itself, so it can likely bypass Infinity either way.
Makima herself has other abilities she can use against Gojo, such as her biological manipulation and her Death Ritual, which are both insta-kill moves that can easily defeat Gojo. However, the Death Ritual would take too much time to set up, Especially when Gojo could just follow her if she tried to leave, and Gojo himself has a simple counter to Makima’s death stare.
That’s right! Reversed Cursed Technique! RCT is basically regeneration that can likely regenerate from anything makima can throw as a kill move. Death Stare? He can regenerate his organs. If he for some reason turned off infinity and fought Makima that way? He can regenerate from Bang if it were to hit him. The only way Telekinesis can really get past this is if she spams her telekinesis the same way she spammed Bang against Hero of Hell. Otherwise, Gojo can just regenerate from Telekinesis if just used normally.
Gojo has his own fair share of offensive abilities that could be a threat to Makima. One of them being…
Domain Expansion: Unlimited Void! Ones of Makima’s main arguments is that the contract would fight against this, and you can make the argument that Makima likely resist the Cosmos Devil’s ability which is very similar to Domain Expansion, since Cosmos Devil could do nothing to Makima when they encountered each other, and Makima can actually just transfer the info to the Cosmos Devil who can actually withstand it. Via the Cosmos Devil, Makima just seems to be able to take care of Unlimited Void.
What about Hollow Purple? The thing that disintegrates something on the atomic level? While this likely would kill Makima to the point where she would need to reincarnate, counting as a loss if it fully hit her. However, he would really never get the chance to. Makima is fast enough to avoid something like purple, even being able to stop him by hitting him with Telekinesis first, stopping the move. Hollow Purple would end the fight if Gojo was faster (or if we gave him FTL scaling, thanks Gege!)
So who takes the advantage here? Gojo seems to get past all of Makima’s abilities outside of the Angel Devil’s lifespan reduction ability and Makima’s Telekinesis, even healing from Telekinesis with RCT, with Makima being able to get past all of Gojo’s abilities outside of a potential purple. If they both basically counter everything the other can do, who would take the advantage? Well, there’s one more ability for Makima that we haven’t talked about.
Makima as the Control Devil has the natural ability to control others, forcing them to do what she commands them to do. While there are arguments of “will Makima view Gojo as inferior?” or “Will Gojo view Makima as superior?”. Makima would likely view herself as superior to Gojo, if not at the start of the fight then later on. Makima’s whole thing with the Chainsaw Devil is that he wanted to control it by proving superiority, and while the Chainsaw Devil didn’t have as much of an impact at birth than Gojo did, he’s definitely regarded as a similar threat right now as Gojo is, so if Makima isn’t getting killed by Gojo and is able to damage him, she would end up finding him inferior to her. Either way it doesn’t really matter, as we’ve seen Makima control people she’s literally never met before and vice versa, such as Angel on their first meeting. Makima herself can also stack commands, to where if one command doesn’t work, the second one definitely will.
The underlying question is, does Gojo resist control? Well it’s complicated, Gojo’s only real resistance is refreshing his brain, which realistically wouldn’t stop Makima from just giving more commands after her brain refreshes, which it only does every 24 hours. We’ve also seen Gojo get hit by a weaker version of control by Hanami who reduced Gojo’s will to fight, which he did break out of but still got affected by, which Makima can stack her commands and control as an ability should be superior to Hanami’s flower field ability, so it’s unreasonable to assume that Gojo can outright resist control.
The contract does provide an interesting advantage on Makima’s end. Gojo is a Japanese citizen, meaning he would be affected by the contract. Not only that, he can’t bypass the contract directly unless he does one of two things. He has to either fully encase Makima in Hollow Purple and disintegrate her body down to the atomic level. Or, he has to kill her without the intent of harming her. Makima’s contract can be bypassed if she is attacked without killing intent. This is how Denji was able to bypass it. Makima’s contract only registers attacks or things that are meant to harm Makima. Attacking without malice and something such as love for example will render the contract useless. However, Gojo won’t have the already established love for Makima that Denji did, so it is unlikely that he will attack Makima without the intent of causing harm to her.
While both seem to have counters to most of their respective abilities, it’s realistically between Hollow Purple vs Telekinesis and control. However Makima’s wincons seem more reliable than Gojo’s one wincon that might never even hit Makima.
Tertiary Factors
Gojo Vs Makima has a lot of other factors outside of just the main ones of stats and hax. These two have a laundry list of abilities with their own set of rules and functions, and these rules are the basis for much of the external factors in the debate.
A big part of Gojo’s end of the debate is the fundamental rules of Cursed Energy itself. Cursed Energy is what Gojo uses for pretty much everything he does, barring beating people with his fists of course. And Cursed Energy has certain qualities to it that affect Gojo in ways that end up giving him a disadvantage.
Those without Cursed Energy are essentially invisible to the natural heightened senses sorcerers have, specifically the senses that the Six Eyes give Gojo. Toji displayed this to the point of almost killing Gojo by exploiting Gojo’s inability to properly sense him. Makima lacks native Cursed Energy, and none of her Devils have Cursed Energy either, so Gojo will be incapable of sensing them with the Six Eyes. The mass, speed, and shape senses that the Six Eyes have are rendered practically useless here, as nothing Makima will use will have Cursed Energy for it to detect. Some of Gojo’s techniques are designed around countering Cursed Techniques directly as well. Techniques like Simple Domain are completely useless here as there’s nothing for them to counter. Do note that while Cursed Energy can do things such as manipulate the brain, Gojo has never shown the capability of doing these abilities himself.
However, even with this restriction, Gojo can definitely keep up. While both are incredibly experienced in their respective areas, Gojo’s experience is geared more towards one-on-one combat in comparison to Makima’s. He has more consistent showings of dominating through pure technique compared to Makima. Makima’s experience is more geared toward being like a combat commander. She knows how to be tactical and plan ahead to achieve her goals, but Gojo is more efficient at plans in-the-moment. He in comparison has better H2H experience and is generally shown to be smarter in combat. He’s described as a combat genius for a reason.
Infinity would grant Gojo immunity to any and all physical contact with his body, it does not prevent knockback from attacks. While it has been shown to warp energy attacks around his body like an array of mirrors angled behind Gojo, it does not work like this with physical attacks. Gojo has shown to be affected by knockback throughout the series. This isn’t inherently a huge downside. Gojo can control himself in the air fairly well and has been shown to float before. But, when he’s against an opponent with as many minions as Makima, it can become a problem. Gojo will have to deal with constant knockback from heavy hits by the various Devils Makima has. Devils like the Fox Devil have been shown to knock off walls from buildings and send them away like it’s nothing, so they’d definitely be able to send Gojo flying.
Makima herself also has abilities that can exploit Gojo experiencing knockback from physical attacks. Specifically; Bang. Bang is so powerful it can send the Chainsaw Devil into space and above the upper atmosphere. Gojo still needs to breathe, so if he’s caught by Bang and sent into the cosmos; he’s fucked.
With the fact that Telekinesis can bypass Infinity in mind, and the fact that it’s instantaneous, knockback can become a huge problem. The numbers advantage in itself is a big point in Makima’s favor. Gojo does have plenty of AOE attacks such as Strengthened Limitless; Blue and Unlimited Void, even these can end up failing due to the sheer quantity of unwilling allies Makima has. Devils like the Zombie Devil have entities they can summon on their own, and that’s without Makima’s assistance.
Speaking of, the quantity of Devils Makima has could possibly help her counteract Unlimited Void. Domains are explicitly weak to outside influence. They’re designed to trap people inside, not outside. So, if Gojo doesn’t manage to hit every Devil in its radius, you could argue that Makima can direct the Devils not caught within to break her out from the outside. And with the Cosmos Devil there to tank the infinite information that Unlimited Void forces on its targets, there are definitely ways Makima could break out of domain via her Devil army. Devils like the Zombie Devil could help with this too with their already large set of minions to use.
With all of this… all of these stats, abilities, and other factors… who ultimately comes out on top? Does the Control Devil prevail? Or does the Honored One? Well…

Severely outnumbered due to Makima’s army.
Makima and Gojo have changed society due to their sheer presence, but there was only one who could truly change society permanently. Who was it? Well to find out, we have to give a summary on what they both can do and determine a victor between the two.
In terms of stats, it’s a bit weird. Makima physically was able to fight comparable to Denji’s Pochita Clone, making her superior to Hybrid Denji who can defeat the Cockorach Devil who can hit Denji through multiple buildings which were calculated at 190 Tons of TNT, meanwhile Gojo had causal Upscaling to Jogo, whose domain attacks were able to generate meteors which can generate 1.82 Gigatons of TNT, making Gojo 9,578,947.37 times stronger than Makima physically. However, Makima’s Bang and Telekinesis scale on a far higher level than she does physically, being able to damage the Chainsaw Devil and the Darkness Devil who both have statements putting them above the Gun Devil who can generate 2.85 Gigatons of TNT, making Makima’s Bang’s/Telekinesis 1.57 times stronger than Gojo is. In terms of speed, Makima should take a clearly edge here than she did in strength, being able to react to the Gun Devil who was able to shoot at Mach 1,457, While Gojo can fight comparable to 20F Sukuna, who is superior to his 15F self who can fly at Mach 269.9, making Makima at least 5.4 times faster than Gojo, and this isn’t even mentioning her bang travel speed, which can travel at Mach 3,768.
In terms of abilities, they both had tons of counters to each other's abilities. Gojo’s two main winning factors, Infinity and Unlimited Void, likely would get countered by Makima. Makima can work around Infinity using her Telekinesis to hit an instant attack that can hit darkness barriers, and Makima has a resistance to Unlimited Void thanks to the Cosmos Devil, who can just take the infinite knowledge for Makima via being a part of her kit. Meanwhile, while most of Makima’s wincons would actually work on Gojo, he would easily regenerate it via his Reversed Cursed Technique, which can regenerate from Makima’s death stare and Telekinesis. The last factors remaining were Hollow Purple vs Telekinesis and Control. If Gojo had hit off Hollow Purple, that would be a solid win for him, however he was far too slow to actually hit this off and had no way to stun Makima for extended periods of time to land it, while Makima can just bypass her restrictions by stacking her commands while using her Telekinesis to slowly but surely kill Gojo for good.
Gojo would be able to resist and heal from Makima’s control for a bit, and he would definitely see himself above her meaning she couldn’t instantly get a hold of him. But, with Makima’s control having conditions stacking on top of each other and Makima being able to control people she’s never met before. Gojo will eventually be worn down overtime and become more and more susceptible to Makima’s control, especially if he gets hit with Telekinesis too much for Reverse Cursed Technique to heal efficiently.
Gojo’s huge pool of Cursed Energy does help him a lot. But since he’ll constantly be dealing with an onslaught of Devils knocking him around, alongside multiple sets of hax that would work on him such as Telekinesis, his pool can be exhausted. His pool of Cursed Energy has been exhausted before against comparable opponents, and using techniques such as Cursed Technique Repair to get his energy back will only leave his brain more vulnerable to Makima’s mind manipulation. Devils like the Angel Devil could also drain his lifespan if he’s not careful.
What about the other factors mentioned above? Well, Gojo does have a decent edge in combat skill and experience. He is the better hand-to-hand combatant of the two and is far more suited for one-on-one fights. But with the restrictions that he has to deal with due to Makima’s lack of Cursed Energy, and Makima having a huge advantage in sheer numbers, Gojo will have to work a lot harder than he would against a single opponent. His domain can be countered by Makima’s Devils by either just having its effects forced on them, specifically onto the Cosmos Devils, or by having the domain broken by Devils not caught in its radius. The Zombie Devil being the most notable utilizer of this potential counter.
Overall, this is a very close fight, with the stats being complicated and both of them having a counter to the majority of the others abilities. Makima’s Telekinesis is a direct counter to Gojo and his Infinity. Her control is a more reliable wincon than Hollow Purple is, making it more likely for her to get her wincons off on Gojo before Gojo can do the same to Makima. Gojo may ultimately be the king of Jujutsu Kaisen and the strongest sorcerer of his time, but he just couldn’t stand up to Makima’s offensive prowess, abilities, and army. Makima relegated the backshot master… into a bottom.
The winner is… Makima!
